Chinese electric car manufacturers made a show of their presence at the IAA Motor Show held in Munich this year. In previous years, German and European brands were at the forefront at the fair. However, this year, electric cars have not started to replace gasoline cars at the fair. In this sense, both Chinese electric car manufacturers and Tesla were the most interesting models of the fair. But are the cards being redistributed in the automobile market?
Are electric cars replacing gasoline cars?
In fact, this question has been on the agenda of the whole world for the last five years. Although the European and Japanese automobile giants did not accept this, the strongest signal that the roles were changing came with the IAA Munich Motor Show. The IAA Motor Show has traditionally been a fair where the German automobile market demonstrates its strength.
Tesla, which participated in the IAA fair again after many years, and Chinese electric car manufacturers, who participated in the fair with dozens of brands, became the stars of the fair. This alone is an indication that even if the era of gasoline cars is not over, electric cars are coming to the fore.
However, German and European manufacturers could not adequately adapt to the rising electric car market. Mercedes and BMW have taken important steps in the luxury EV market and demonstrated this claim at the Munich Motor Show. However, for the economical electric car market, both the Volkswagen group and other German and European brands are left behind. Finally, although Volkswagen All Electric ID.2 was announced at the fair, the model will be on the market three years later.
The model, which will appear in a Volkswagen Golf-like chassis, will have a range of 470 km. However, it is expected that there will be major changes in battery technology for electric cars within three years. In this sense, according to experts, three years is a long time to develop an electric car without falling behind in technology.
In this sense, the statement made by Volkswagen CEO to journalists at the IAA fair is important. CEO Oliver Blume said he was impressed by the pace at which China is developing electric car technology. Blume admitted that Volkswagen is far behind BYD and Tesla in the EV market.
The fact that the economy of Germany, the leader of the European automobile market, was affected by the war is among the important reasons for this situation. The automotive industry, the locomotive of the German economy, is facing a serious contraction of 3.5 percent compared to last year.
BYD, Leapmotor and Geely, the important brands of the Chinese electric car market, also came to the fore at the IAA fair, especially with their SUV EV models.
It is also a matter of curiosity how Chinese electric car companies will grow in the European market after the fair. So what do you think, can electric cars replace gasoline models? We are waiting your comments.
