Are the robots armed?
The San Francisco police force demanded the active use of armed robots in the draft approval it submitted to the city government. Where the life of the public or an officer was at stake, these armed robots would have the power to kill the suspect. Thus, instead of arming more officers across the organization, robots would be assigned.
This situation has brought about a great debate. Many NGOs and organizations, and even officials within the city government themselves, opposed this draft. The definition of the use of weapons was then removed from the draft and returned to standard patrol duty. The draft is expected to be submitted for approval on November 29.
The San Francisco Police Department has been the subject of numerous compensation suits for excessive use of force in the past. In this regard, the armed robot proposal received a great response. Still, it seems that law enforcement agencies are slowly starting to look at armed robot cops. Today, in many countries such as China, robots patrol the city and can neutralize criminals with devices such as taser, but it seems that human beings want even more violence.
