Some operating systems developed based on Linux may become the new favorites of gamers. Tests using Valve’s Steam Deck optimization revealed that Linux-based systems outperform Windows 11 in gaming performance.
Linux vs Windows 11 gaming tests
Some benchmark tests conducted by US gamers revealed the gaming performance of three Linux-based operating systems. The benchmarks aroused curiosity as it performed better than Windows 11. How did systems named Arch Linux, Pop!_OS and Nobara OS become more successful than Windows 11?
During testing, the RX 6700 XT graphics card and AMD Ryzen 7 5800X processor were used. It was stated that the games tested included many big-budget productions such as Cyberpunk 2077, Forspoken and Starfield.
During the test, it was stated that Nobara OS ranked first with an average of 100 fps in all games. Arch Linux and Pop!_OS ranked second and third with 99 fps and 95 fps, respectively. In contrast, Windows 11 was last on the list with an average of 94 fps.
Although the performance may seem different, it should not be forgotten that the games are optimized for Windows. Individual game results occurred in a similar manner. The only game where Windows surpassed its competitors was Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
What is even more impressive is that the performance difference between operating systems is quite low. This means that Linux is more successful than Windows, even though it translates the games with software called Proton.
However, it is necessary to remind that these operating systems have much fewer services than Windows 11, that is, they are smaller.
