Bacteria and viruses are indispensable in the seas and various puddles.

These waters can harbor very dangerous creatures and cause irreversible damage to human health. Diarrhea, for example, is one of the most common ailments that can often be caught by sewage flowing into the sea.

At the same time, when any mouse urine mixes into the sea and various water bodies, a disease called Leptospirosis (Weil’s disease) may develop, and if this water is drunk, various infections, liver and kidney disorders may occur.

A study conducted in 2018 also points out the harms of sea water.

This study found that people who swim in the sea are significantly more likely to get earaches, stomach ailments and various infections than those who prefer the pool.

In addition, since the seas are vast and the contents of some water bodies are uncertain, the existence of many dangerous creatures for humans in these regions should not be overlooked.

One of the first examples that comes to mind, jellyfish, which usually means human life when they sting, are among the most dangerous sea creatures in this sense and it may not be possible to be protected from them at times.

However, contrary to all these, the existence of such dangerous creatures, various animal wastes and chemical currents in the pools is out of question.

So what about the pools?

When it comes to pools, the first question that comes to mind is how often the water in the pool is changed and to what extent the chlorine in it affects us negatively.

Unfortunately, no disinfection method in pools gives 100% results and these harmful creatures, known as single-celled parasites or pathogens such as giardia or cryptosporidium, can survive after the chlorination process.

At the same time, swimming in a chlorinated pool, regardless of whether it is open or closed, carries a very dominant risk factor for the development of respiratory diseases such as asthma and hay fever, especially in children.

In addition, the amount of chlorine added to the pool is very important for human health.

Chlorine is a major irritant, and this disinfectant becomes even more harmful when combined with sweat, saliva, feces, hair, skin particles and sunscreens. Combined with different substances, this chlorine can also be absorbed through the skin, swallowed and evaporate, affecting respiration.

Again, some studies have been carried out on the fact that chlorine combined with various substances can also damage human DNA. The researchers, who tested this pool chlorine on mice in the laboratory, were quite surprised when the mice died. Based on this study, scientists agreed that pool water can increase the risk of cancer.

Both of these waters, which we prefer to cool off and spend pleasant moments in the summer months, contain various risks from different perspectives.

In summary, it is not possible to say that neither the pools nor the seas are completely safe in terms of human health, but this does not mean that both should not be preferred. It is possible to minimize these risk factors when the use of these areas is limited to a certain period.
