The Iranian Ministry of Defense introduced a new ballistic missile at the ceremony held on the occasion of the Independence Day of the city of Khorramshahr. The missile, named Khyber (Hürremşehr-4), has a range of 2,000 km and is capable of carrying warheads up to 1.5 tons.

Khyber is defined as an improved version of the previous generation missiles. According to Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, the new hypergolic fuel-powered missile is unique thanks to its immunity to electronic warfare and air defense system attacks. Khyber, which can use different types of warheads, takes a very short time to be ready for launch.

Intimidate Israel and the USA

Ashtiani also drew attention to the missile’s mobility and high destructive power. Khyber has a liquid-fueled engine and a guidance and control system that allows the trajectory of the warhead to be monitored and adjusted outside the atmosphere. It should be noted that its speed outside the atmosphere reaches 19,600 km per hour, and its speed in the atmosphere reaches 9,800 km per hour.

Iran, which has one of the largest missile programs in the Middle East, says it has reached the capacity to reach Israeli and US bases in the region with ballistic missiles as a deterrent in the event of an attack and as a potential retaliatory attack against enemies. Israeli Armed Forces officials, on the other hand, stated that after the latest missile announcement, there was a perception of a potential threat to Iran.
