While smartphones are developing day by day, manufacturers are trying to attract users with different features. One of the most prominent features in smartphones in recent times has been foldable screens. Many manufacturers have taken important steps in this regard. However, like every new technology, foldable phones also have some problems.
Giant step in display technology from Apple
Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola, Huawei, Oppo and Honor have already come up with foldable screen phones. On the other hand, Apple has not yet stepped into this sector. Continuing its work for the foldable phone model, the company intends to radically solve the main problems of foldable screens.
Apple has been working on a foldable iPhone for at least five years and is analyzing the points where the screen can be folded. Working on a technology that can prevent the inevitable wear and tear that can occur on these screens, the company aims to make iPhone screens self-repair.
The new patent obtained by the technology company aims to minimize the damage that may occur on the screens, while at the same time it is about the self-renewal of the damaged part. Under the name of “Electronic Devices with Flexible Screen Covering Layers”, Apple plans to take important steps on foldable devices.
The “self-healing” part of the patent is quite remarkable. However, the details of this feature have not been shared in the patent yet. According to the patent, the screen of the new model will consist of three parts. While there are standard fixed screens on both sides of the device, it is planned to have a flexible screen on the folding part.
Apple states that a layer of self-healing material may be placed on the screen to help reduce the number of dents, scratches or other defects that may occur on the screen during device use.
The company states that the self-renewing layer will work just like an elastomer. We can describe elastomers as a polymer material that stands out by returning to its original state, even if its shape is distorted. Thus, Apple wants to repair any damage that may occur to the screens of iPhone and other devices.
The tech giant states that the self-healing function can be initiated or accelerated by externally applied heat, light, electric current or other stimuli. For this, Apple aims to include transparent conductors that create a heating layer on the screen. This layer is intended to be activated while the device is charging.
Although this patent by Apple first brings to mind foldable screens, other devices of the company can also benefit from this technology. Apple-signed laptops, tablets, phones and smart watches may benefit from self-healing screen technology in the future.
This patent application made by Apple reveals the points that screen technology can come in the best way. So what do you think about self-repairing screens of Apple-signed products? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
