Saudi Arabia approves USB-C requirement
As reported, the USB-C requirement, which was approved in Saudi Arabia, will be implemented in two stages. Accordingly, within the scope of the regulation, which will begin on January 1, 2025, in addition to devices such as smartphones, headphones and speakers sold in the country, mobile accessories will also need to have USB-C. On April 1, 2026, this rule will apply to portable devices such as laptops and iPads.
In addition, some devices that do not have practical use will be excluded from the new regulation. According to the Khaleej Times, Saudi Arabia states that “improving the user experience and reducing costs” is behind this new decision. Also, the country’s local regulator argues that USB-C allows for higher data transfer rates, while at the same time, single-cable compatibility will help reduce e-waste.
Apple is the main target of such laws
Although such laws target all device manufacturers, of course, Apple will be the most affected. Niketim US giant has been offering support for Lightning port on many devices for a long time. However, this will change very soon. As you know, the upcoming iPhone 15 series is expected to have a USB-C port.
