Apple, which became the first company with a market value of more than 3 trillion dollars a while ago, removed the charger adapter and EarPods headphones from the boxes with the iPhone 12 series. Explaining the reason for this as reducing the use of plastic, the company received serious reactions from some quarters in the first place and even became a laughing stock among its competitors. Of course, it has become a trend in the industry that there is no charging adapter and earphones in the boxes.
After Apple’s decision, while the charger adapter and headphones were removed from the boxes with the iPhone 12 series, only France was exempted from this situation. The reason for this was that the country’s laws required the presence of headphones in smartphone boxes. However, we can say that things will change completely here in the coming days.
The law has changed in France: EarPods are removed from iPhone boxes
In French laws, there is a clause that requires smartphones to come with ‘hands-free products’ or ‘headphones’ in order to prevent the harm caused by electromagnetic radiation to children. For this reason, Apple had to give EarPods free of charge to iPhone buyers in the country.
About two years after Apple’s decision, it was announced that important changes were made in French laws under the subject of electronic sales. Thus, the obligation of smartphone manufacturers, especially Apple, to have free earphones in their boxes has been eliminated. In fact, informational texts such as “Smartphone manufacturers no longer need to provide headphones in France” have begun to be hung on the windows of some electronics stores in the country.
Under the law that came into force in late 2021, Apple will be able to remove the EarPods headphones from the boxes of the smartphones it sells as of January 24, 2022. On the other hand, it was announced that Xiaomi started to implement the new law as of January 17, 2022.
