Keeping its phone models updated every year, Apple is preparing to introduce the new iPhone 14 model in September. One of these innovations in Apple, which has introduced various updates on its products, is chips. Finally, the company, which includes A15 chips in the iPhone 13 model, is expected to appear with A16 chips in the iPhone 14 model. However, according to the information received, these chips will not contain a major innovation.
iPhone 14 chips will be produced with 5 nm technology
According to the roadmap of TSMC, Apple’s chip supplier, no major developments are expected in A16 chips. In the company’s roadmap, chips produced with 3 and 4 nm technology will not reach the production line until 2023. This means that TSMC will continue production with 5 nm technology.
It seems that the A16 chips, which are planned to be used in the iPhone 14, will not host a new technology. The fact that 5 nm production will continue in A16 chips is considered quite negative. We will see together how the 5 nm production method used in the A14 and A15 chips will be moved to the A16 and how it will affect the performance. Let us remind you that the A15 chips offer about 10 percent performance and efficiency compared to the A14. We can see a similar rise in the A16.
Sticking to the same production level severely limits the potential performance and power efficiency gains. This can also negatively affect the policy used for new models of iPhone. While it is thought that the company’s new A16 chips will only be included in iPhone Pro models, it is expected to use A15 chips in standard versions.
It is not unusual for iPhone chips to be used with the same technology for three consecutive years. Apple was renewing its chip technology at short intervals in order to stand out from the competition. However, due to the pandemic and the chip crisis, Apple does not seem to push the limits this time.
It was claimed that Apple’s M2 chips, which are also planned to be used in MacBook models, will not come this year. Accordingly, M1 chips will continue to be used in Macbook models. Of course, Apple can call the renewed chips “M2” with a small change on the M1. It is thought that the company can follow such a path as a marketing strategy.
