Apple has switched to USB-C on nearly every popular device, with the exception of the entry-level iPad model and iPhone devices. Apple, which has been criticized for not using USB-C technology in the iPhone for many years, is also under pressure from the European Union. However, it seems that Apple will continue to use the Lightning connector in the iPhone 14 series.

iPhone 14 Pro may come with faster USB 3.0-based Lightning connector

iDropNews stated that they have heard from multiple anonymous sources that Apple will not switch to USB-C in the iPhone 14 series. According to iDropNews, Apple will continue to use the Lightning port on the iPhone 14 series, but is considering switching to USB 3.0-based Lightning technology on the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Normally, the Lightning port is based on USB 2.0 technology and allows a maximum transfer of 480Mbps. However, Apple used the Lightning port, which is based on USB 3.0 and allows 5Gbps transfer, in the iPad Pro model it introduced in 2015. It seems that Apple is considering using the same technology in the iPhone 14 Pro models.

The European Union has been considering making USB-C mandatory in smartphones for a while. In line with this law, Apple has thought of making the iPhone 14 series completely portless, but seems to have abandoned this plan for now. It looks like Apple is going to piss off the tech world by introducing iPhones that don’t have USB-C this year, too. At least with USB 3.0, 4K video transfer will be easier.
