iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max production in danger
According to the latest estimates, almost all (95 percent) of all iPhones today are made in China. Among these, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models are divided between Foxconn (80 percent) and Luxshare (20 percent) facilities, while iPhone 14 Plus production is carried out at Pegatron (80 percent) and Luxshare facilities (20 percent). The top model of the family, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, is produced only at Foxconn facilities.
However, the production shortage will be most effective on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. Apple’s largest manufacturing partner, Foxconn, plans to quadruple its workforce at its Indian factories, local government sources told Reuters. This will increase the current number of workers from 17,000 to 70,000.
The said expansion is expected to take place over a two-year period. Therefore, there will not be a quick response to the current crisis. However, recent leaks say that Apple may accelerate its plans to reduce dependency on China to avoid such a situation again. Thus, iPhone 15 production, which will start next year, can be divided equally between China and India.
