As you know, Apple’s highly anticipated Wonderlust event took place yesterday. So much so that at this event, we encountered the first iPhone 15 models with USB-C and new Apple Watch devices. However, while all eyes were on the iPhone 15, an important decision was made in France regarding the iPhone 12. iPhone 12 sales were banned in the country due to its high SAR value.

iPhone 12 sales banned in France

As reported, the French National Frequency Agency (ANFR) suspended the sales of the iPhone 12 model in the country. The reason for this is that the device contains high radiation. After testing on 141 phones, ANFR found that the iPhone 12 emits 5.74 watts per kilogram when the phone is placed in a pocket. Let us note that the legal limit set for the EU is 4.0 watts per kilogram.

Therefore, the regulator announced that Apple must use “all available tools” to resolve this issue, otherwise all units sold in Europe will be recalled. Apple, on the other hand, did not make any statement on the issue. However, Jean-Noel Barrot, France’s minister responsible for the digital economy, says that the radiation problem can be solved with an update to be shared within two weeks.

As you know, Apple stopped the production of iPhone 12 after iPhone 15. But the reality is that tens of millions of devices have been sold since its launch in 2020. So we will have to wait and see how the problem of radiation will be addressed.
