Gurman: M2 iPad Pro may be introduced in the coming days

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has confirmed that Apple will announce new iPad models very soon. We will encounter the next generation iPad Pro equipped with the same M2 chip as the M2 MacBook Air introduced in June. The new iPad Pro models, codenamed J617 and J620, will come in two screen sizes, 11 inches and 12.9 inches.

As you know, the M2 processor is 20% faster than the M1 processor. This means there will be no perceptible performance gains over the current iPad Pro model. It looks like there won’t be any other major hardware changes.

Along with the new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro with M2 chip, the entry-level iPad model is also expected to be introduced. It is estimated that the 10th generation iPad, which appeared in June, will have a new design besides 5G support and will use the USB-C port instead of Lightning. The new entry-level iPad will be powered by the Apple A14 Bionic chip found in the iPhone 12 and iPad Air 4. Apparently, M series processors will be kept exclusive to iPad Pros.

It is said that Apple will announce the new iPad Pro and iPad 10th generation model with a press release, not at an event. On the other hand, the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are expected to be introduced in late 2022. The new MacBooks will be powered by the M2 Pro and M2 Max chip, which are more powerful versions of the M2 chip. Maybe the M2 Mac Mini can be introduced as well.
