Apple today released the second betas of the upcoming iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 updates to developers, and a number of new features continue to be developed in addition to Apple Intelligence features with new iOS updates.
Find My
Find My has a new option to ‘Share Item Location’ with a new “airline or trusted person” who can help you find something you’ve lost. Selecting the Share Item Location option will create a link that allows a person to see the location of the lost item when they open the link.
The link can also be opened on a non-Apple device, so you won’t need an iPhone or Mac to provide someone with the location of your item. Links will expire after a week or when you find your lost item again.
Siri ChatGPT limit
The ChatGPT section of Apple Intelligence for Siri now shows ChatGPT limits in effect for free users, with the option to upgrade to a paid ChatGPT Plus plan.
With ChatGPT integration, users will have free access to ChatGPT but will only have a small number of responses using the latest ChatGPT-4o engine and a small number of DALL-E 3 images that can be created.
Battery life and phone temperature
Apple says in the iOS 18.2 beta 2 update notes that it has improved battery life and phone temperature.
App icons in settings
When using dark mode, icons in the Settings app will have a darker look on a black background, instead of icons being a solid color with white highlights.
Camera Control
For iPhone 16 users, there’s now the option to lock your auto-exposure and auto-focus settings with a light press. AE/AF Lock toggle can be turned on by going to Settings > Camera > Camera Control.
There’s also now an option to adjust the double-click speed of Camera Control. Options will include Default, Slow, and Slower.
iPhone mirroring with personal hotspot
iOS 18.2 will allow you to use iPhone Mirroring while your iPhone’s personal hotspot connection is shared with your Mac.
Previously, having your Mac connected via Personal Hotspot did not allow you to use iPhone Mirroring.
Fitness hotkeys
New Fitness app hotkeys are coming that you can use when creating shortcuts, such as Open Fitness Settings and Open Session History.
