A small change in iOS 17 could affect how you use your iPhone and make your phone suddenly feel faster. Long-time iPhone users who are familiar with Apple’s 3D Touch and Haptic Touch features will really like this.

Unless you routinely long-press iPhone app icons to open shortcuts, this iOS 17 innovation won’t help speed up your experience. That’s what 3D Touch and its successor, Haptic Touch, do: open shortcuts for apps.

These shortcuts allow you to access certain app features faster than tapping the icon and entering the app. For example, you can quickly search for apps or check for app updates by long-pressing the App Store app icon.

To access Haptic Touch, you need to go to Settings and then follow Accessibility – Touch. Find the Haptic Touch line here and tap it.

You will see three options: Fast, Default, and Slow. Since Haptic Touch is set to Default in iOS 17, simply select Fast to speed up opening shortcuts.

Tap the image on the same screen to experience speed differences. The Fast setting is faster than Default. We’re not sure if it’s twice as fast, but the change in speed is definitely noticeable.

Comparatively, iOS 16 gave you two Haptic Touch options: “Fast” and “Slow”. The old “Fast” is now equivalent to the “Default” setting. Therefore, the new “Fast” setting manages to make a difference.
