In June, Apple announced iOS 17, which includes brand new features for iPhones. However, many innovations introduced here were postponed to the iOS 17.2 update. So, what awaits iPhone users in the version that will be released in December? Here are 10 new features and more that will be available with iOS 17.2…

10 features coming with iOS 17.2

Journal app 📖

Your iPhone will soon be able to act as your personal journal, thanks to Apple’s new Journal app. Apple had initially announced that this app would be released as part of iOS 17, and it’s finally coming with iOS 17.2.

Journal application will have a simple and understandable interface. You can start a new entry and bookmark your favorite days from the “+” section in the application. It will also support the recordings, images, audio and location tags you open. Thus, you will be able to record your thoughts, experiences and memories compared to an ordinary diary. Additionally, the new app comes with a journaling schedule, journaling suggestions, creative writing tips, and advanced security features against unauthorized access.

One Click Translation 🗺️

iOS 17.2 comes with a brand new Translate feature specifically for the Action button. Thus, iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max users will be able to translate live conversations into multiple languages by simply pressing a button. According to Apple, the translation is not only accurate, but also sensitive to context; This allows nuances and colloquial expressions to be captured effectively.

Detailed Weather Forecasts 🌨️

The new Update includes new Details, Daily Forecast and Sunrise/Sunset widgets for the Weather widget. Thus, users will be able to access much more information without having to go to the application.

As you can see above, the Details section shows information such as precipitation probability, UV index, wind speed and air quality, while the Daily Forecast includes the weather for the next few days.

Favorite and Shared Playlists 🔁

The Music app now lets you create and share playlists with friends, family or colleagues, and everyone can contribute their favorite tracks to the list. This feature can be accessed from the three-dot icon in the upper right corner of the application in a playlist you create.

You will then be able to create a link to the playlist and anyone with access to that link will be able to add to it. You can also invite people to join via QR code and choose to approve each person who wants to join.

Additionally, iOS 17.2 offers a Favorite Playlist that automatically collects the songs you add to your favorites for Apple Music. Since this list is filled dynamically, it will save users time. In addition, the new version has a new privacy-oriented feature that allows you to turn off your listening history.

Use Stickers as Message Reactions 💬

Apple aims to make message reactions in the Messages app more fun and meaningful. Previously, you had to drag a sticker or emoji from the keyboard onto any message bubble. You can now long-press any chat bubble and tap “Add Sticker,” which lets you choose the sticker or emoji to apply to the corner of the iMessage.

Verify iMessage Contacts 🪪

iMessage’s security has been boosted with a new feature to verify your contacts. Contact Key Verification adds an extra layer of security to your conversations by displaying a code that verifies that you are communicating with the target person.

For those who missed it, Apple first introduced iMessage Contact Key Verification in December 2022 and said the feature was designed for people like journalists, human rights activists, and government officials. It is now accessible with iOS 17.2.

iCloud Message Sync 📲

iCloud’s capabilities now include message settings synchronization for your Apple devices. From the new “Messages in iCloud‌” section in the Settings app, you’ll be able to see the total storage space occupied by messages, the number of messages synced to “iCloud” and the time of the last sync. Additionally, preferences and customizations on one device will automatically be reflected on your other devices signed in to the same iCloud account.

New TV Experience 📽️

Another application renewed with iOS 17.2 is Apple TV. The renewed Apple TV application now offers a more minimalist and user-friendly experience. The separate tabs for Movies and TV shows in the Store section have been removed and lumped together. Additionally, TV shows and Movie purchasing options are expected to be removed from the iTunes app very soon.

More Reliable Emergency Alerts 🆘

The iOS 17.2 update also improves the reliability of emergency alerts on iPhone. A new “Local Awareness” option is now available in Settings -> Notifications & Emergency Alerts. Apple says Local Awareness uses your approximate location to improve the timeliness, accuracy and reliability of emergency alerts. So the chances of missing alerts, whether severe weather alerts or other vital notifications, are minimized.

More Customizations for FaceTime, Memoji and Contacts 📇

The new update to Memoji allows iPhone users to create avatars that reflect their personal style and identity. Additionally, Apple has also added a “Body” section where users can customize the waist, chest, shoulders, and arms.

In the Guide section, new customization options are added to Communication Posters. Thus, people will be able to stand out even more with a rainbow-colored text option, styles and coloring options. There’s also a new option to share your Contact Poster via FaceTime and Phone. Previously, this setting was only available in the Messages app.

Another change is specifically for FaceTime. iOS 17.2 improves privacy in FaceTime by offering alerts for blocked contacts. When a blocked contact tries to reach you via FaceTime, the app now provides a notification to notify you before the call is initiated.

Real Time News Tracking 📰

The News app now offers greater support for Live Events. You will be able to follow current information instantly via your iPhone. In addition, these notifications can be accessed via the Lock Screen or from the Dynamic Island screen on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 models.
