Layer 2 scaling solution Polygon has experienced a prolonged outage due to an issue with the nodes. It is reported that the problem that started yesterday evening is still not resolved and there are interruptions in the network. Polygon hasn’t produced a new block for a long time.
Polygon announced yesterday evening that there was an issue with the Tendermint implementation used by one of the two layers of the Polygon PoS chain. While it is said that this will cause users to experience interruptions from time to time, the problem is still not resolved.
The Polygon team issued an update on the situation 7 hours ago, saying:
“All user funds are safe. We are working on a long term solution and will continue to update the official forum and other channels.
The following details were included in the forum statement:
“Polygon PoS team currently investigating an issue with the Heimdall implementation used by one of the two layers of the Polygon PoS chain. Due to a recent upgrade, the Heimdall node, which is part of the dual-node architecture of Polygon PoS, has been discontinued. All user funds and data are absolutely safe. As part of the previous upgrade, no consensus/state modules were supposed to be affected. Although still under investigation by the team, we suspect that there may be a bug in the update that affects consensus, causing different Heimdall validators to be on different versions of the chain, thus not reaching 2/3 consensus. When using the Tendermint consensus this will cause the Heimdall chain to stop. We are currently working on identifying the exact causes and preparing mitigation solutions that will continue to work as soon as possible. More details will be shared soon.”
