The US-based social network Tumblr, whose access was blocked in our country yesterday evening, is on the rise in many countries thanks to some recent policy changes and the ongoing chaos on Twitter. A few famous names such as Ryan Reynolds and Lynda Carter left Twitter and switched to this platform.
Unlike most major social networks, Tumblr does not verify the authenticity of high-profile accounts. This can cause some confusion, as it’s nearly impossible to tell if these accounts are genuine without links from some known non-platform accounts. Fortunately, Tumblr is introducing a “new feature that will do absolutely nothing” to change that, allowing you to purchase the feature with a one-time payment of $7.99. As you can imagine, this “useless innovation” was implemented to make fun of Twitter.
The Tumblr Important Blue Internet Checkmark is the latest of several prank items Tumblr sells in its webshop, and it does what you guessed it. That is, it adds a blue checkmark (or even two checkmarks) next to a blog of your choice. In short, this purchase is just an expense that doesn’t give any special status and does nothing but a small visual addition, despite being paid for around $8.
Your only advantage here is that the badge “can turn into a lot of crabs at any time.” (If your Tumblr hasn’t been updated since 2014, it’s a reference to an April Fool’s prank on the site.) You also have the opportunity to make fun of Twitter and Elon Musk’s ever-changing checkmark decisions.
