How is the performance of ARM Cortex-A720 and ARM Cortex-A520?
The ARM Cortex-A720 core, like its older brother, was developed with a focus on efficiency. The core, which is 20 percent more energy efficient with the same performance, can successfully handle multitasking when 5 pieces come together.
The ARM Cortex-A520 core is also 22 percent more energy efficient than the previous generation. It is mostly designed for dual-core scenarios and thus covers the least possible membrane area. Both of these cores will not support 32-bit as they are designed with ARMv9.2.
With the new cores, we will generally see 1+5+2 designs, as this new design performs 27 percent better in Geekbench 6 tests. In the existing chips, there were structures in the form of 1+3+4 or 1+4+3.
Another innovation of ARM was the DSU-120 dynamic unit sharing technology. Up to 14 cores can be configured in total with DSU technology, which has been upgraded to the fifth generation. For slightly more portable systems, the DSU can use up to 32MB of Level 3 cache in total.
