AMD’s new Ryzen 7000 series processors are now on the shelves. However, investigations on processors are still ongoing. An interesting discovery was made in a recent test: Some Ryzen 5 7600X models may have extra cores. But how can this happen?

We see single CCD (Core Complex Die) or dual CCD design in AMD’s new Ryzen 7000 series processors. These chips contain the main cores, and as the number of CCDs increases, the number of cores offered by the processor also increases. Everything is normal so far, but it seems that some Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 processors have two CCD chips instead of one.

Ryzen 5 7600X may have extra cores

Der8auer, who removed the thermal protector mold of the Ryzen 5 7600X for overclocking, was the first person to discover this situation. It is clear that there are two CCD chips on the processor, which should normally be one. Therefore, the Ryzen 5 7600X, which has 6 cores and 12 threads, has extra cores. However, this should not cause immediate joy, because the chip, which should not normally be, is not active.

Other CCD is not active

What is more interesting is why AMD produces or sells Ryzen 5 7600Xs with dual CCD designs. AMD may be using defective Ryzen 9 chips with only one working Zen 4 CCD and labeling them as Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7. If this is the case, the other mold may be completely defective and unusable. But it is also possible that the mold is artificially locked. Therefore, it is possible to bypass this chip, albeit with a small chance. We have seen that overclocking has begun on Ryzen 7 5800X3Ds with some features locked. So a similar scenario can happen with Ryzen 5 7600Xs with dual CCDs. Of course, this process is much more complex and difficult.

As a result, it’s interesting to see AMD include dual Zen 4 CCDs in some Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 processors. We do not know whether this is the case with other processors on the market or whether it is just a coincidence. The only way to find out is to remove the mold on the processor, accepting that it will be out of warranty.
