If we recall, Nvidia recently announced a new video upscaling technology called RTX Video Super Resolution. For those who don’t know, this technology, which takes advantage of Nvidia’s Tensor cores, manages to greatly increase the resolution of browser-based videos. It turned out that Intel, which has now stepped into the external GPU market, is working on a similar technology for Chromium-based browsers.

Intel’s new video upscaling technology is coming

We recently heard that Intel engineers are developing a new video upscaling technology. But it wasn’t entirely clear how it worked or even whether it worked. Now VideoCardz has discovered that this technology is supported on certain Intel graphics cards and can be activated with a Chrome-centric manual change.

Accordingly, users with compatible GPU models can access Intel VSR using the shortcut command “–enable-features=IntelVpSuperResolution” in Chrome 109 and higher versions with hardware acceleration enabled. However, it should be noted that for now, support is offered for Intel Arc series, 10th generation Intel Core family and higher graphics cards.

Shared screenshots show that Intel VSR provides different results depending on the video source and the processing power of the graphics unit. However, we can still say that there has been a noticeable increase in quality. It is not yet known when the new upgrade technology will become available. As a matter of fact, Intel has not even confirmed that such a feature is planned.
