Benchmark results of Intel Sapphire Rapids processor, which rivals Intel Ice Lake Xeon Platinum 8380 and AMD EPYC 7773X (Milan-X) chips, have been leaked. Test results of three processors in dual-socket configurations were shared on social media. Here are the details…
Intel Sapphire Rapids showed up in the tests
The upcoming Intel Sapphire Rapids series will have a multi-chip design with EMIB connections. It will also house the chipmaker’s rebranded 10nm Enhanced Superfin technology. These new Xeon server chips will use the company’s Golden Cove cores, in line with the LGA4677 (Socket E) socket.
It will also support Intel Sapphire Rapids chips, PCIe 5.0 and DDR5. In addition, each processor will have up to four Ultra Path Interconnect (UPI) 2.0 connections for interconnection with other processors on multi-socket motherboards.
The chipmaker’s latest processor is said to have 48 cores, 96 threads, and 90MB of L3 cache. The version used in benchmark tests is stated to have a base clock speed of 2.3 GHz, a boost speed of 3.3 GHz and a TDP (power consumption) of 270W.
leaking the related test, YuuKi-AnS is testing Intel’s Sapphire Rapids chip, Xeon Platinum 8380 chip and an AMD EPYC 773X chip in dual-slot configurations. Sapphire Rapids and Xeon Platinum 8380 systems have 96 and 80 cores respectively, while the system with AMD EPYC 773X processor outperforms both on paper with 128 cores.
In theory, AMD’s processor is expected to excel at handling multi-threaded workloads compared to both Intel’s chips. As for the test results, the Sapphire Rapids chip scores 1,033 in Cinebench R23 single-core test and 67,932 in Cinebench’s multi-core test.
Meanwhile, the EPYC 773X system scores 712 and 82,464 points in the same benchmark, while the Xeon Platinum 8380 system scores 950 and 66,242 points. However, since the Sapphire Rapids processors tested are engineering samples, it should be noted that the clock speeds may differ from those that will be released.
