Meteor Lake will not come to desktop
The 14th Gen Meteor Lake processors won’t find their way into a socketed desktop package like the upcoming LGA1851. The new processors will be available to OEMs to build mobile (laptops and tablets) and all-in-one (AIO) desktops and mini PCs as socketless models based on specific processor models.
This is definitely a disappointing development for desktop gamers and enthusiasts who have been waiting for new chips to be released on the LGA 1851 platform. On the other hand, the LGA 1851 platform will almost certainly begin to be used in the second half of 2024 with the Intel Arrow Lake-S family. Meanwhile, the Raptor Lake Refresh family will take its place on the existing LGA 1700 platform in the coming weeks.
Now that Arrow Lake will replace Raptor Lake Refresh, we can expect a bigger jump in performance from moving from Meteor Lake to Arrow Lake on desktops. According to current estimates, Arrow Lake could bring up to a 21 percent performance increase over the 13th Gen. But we still have a year to go and these numbers will likely change.
