Confusing news about the Meteor Lake architecture, which Intel aims not to give a share to the Ryzen APU family, by making significant improvements on the graphics side, continues to come.
When will Intel Meteor Lake be released?
It was stated that Intel Meteor Lake architecture wanted to appear in the first months of 2023, at least on the laptop side. However, it was on the agenda that TSMC would switch to the 5nm process for Meteor Lake, which it planned to develop in the 7nm process.
According to the new information, there is still no integrity on the production side of Meteor Lake. Intel will produce the graphics layer of the processors, which will have a multi-layer structure, as 3nm in TSMC, and the processor layer as 5nm in TSMC. Input-output layer and control layers will be produced by Intel.
However, since there was an inefficiency in production on the Intel front, the Meteor Lake production date, which was contracted with TSMC, was brought forward. Intel boss Pat Gelsinger will meet with TSMC boss next month via emergency code.
During the meeting, it will be discussed that production should be delayed until the end of 2023. Since it is a premium customer in TSMC’s list, a guaranteed production quota is allocated to Intel. The development to be experienced in the 3nm process means loss for TSMC. According to the agreement, this loss of TSMC will be covered.
