As you may remember, we mentioned to you that Intel may abandon the Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9 naming scheme. So much so that the CPU giant confirmed its rebranding plans with Meteor Lake processors. Now, another Meteor Lake model, branded ‘Ultra’, has been displayed on the PugetBench platform.

A new “Core Ultra 7” model appeared

In the report that appeared in the past weeks, we saw that Intel is working on a new model called Core Ultra 5 1003H. Another CPU displayed on the PugetBench platform was the Intel Core Ultra 7 1003H. As we’ve mentioned in the past, a nomenclature like the Core Ultra 5 seems rather contradictory. As a matter of fact, the i5 class is being launched as the mid-range segment today and it can create confusion for users.

It is not yet clear which platforms the product name change will apply to. On the other hand, we can see that Intel is heading towards a naming scheme similar to the Apple M series. For example, like Core Ultra 5, Core Max 5, Core Plus 5. However, let’s say that we have to wait for a while to confirm all this.

As you know, the CPU giant announced that the upcoming Meteor Lake processors will have a special VPU for artificial intelligence acceleration. Therefore, the Ultra brand can serve a different purpose.

According to past leaks, the Intel Core Mobile H-series brand change will be as follows:

  • Core i9 1XX00H → Core (Ultra) 9 1X0XH
  • Core i7 1XX00H → Core (Ultra) 7 1X0XH
  • Core i5 1XX00H → Core (Ultra) 5 1X0XH
  • Core i3 1XX00H → Core (Ultra) 3 1X0XH
