Last year, Intel announced Intel Foundry Services (IFS) in response to increasing demand for semiconductor manufacturing in the US and Europe. Now, MediaTek, one of the leading chip manufacturers, seems to be an important customer of the company. Major chipmakers today announced a strategic partnership to manufacture chips using IFS’ advanced process technologies.
Will expand the supply chain
As it is known, MediaTek provides processors for smartphones manufactured by OnePlus, Samsung and other brands. However, the new partnership will help MediaTek build a “more balanced, flexible supply chain” in the US and Europe. Because the majority of the current chip production comes from the east, especially from countries such as Taiwan, Europe-based IFS will provide great advantages to the company.

Commenting on the new partnership, NS Tsai, corporate senior vice president of MediaTek Platform Technology and Manufacturing Operations, said, “MediaTek has long adopted a multi-source strategy. We have an existing 5G data card partnership with Intel and are now expanding our relationship to manufacturing smart edge devices through Intel Foundry Services. ” he stated.
