Intel launched its 12th generation Alder Lake processor family in the third quarter of last year. Linux users who bought Intel Alder Lake processors stated that they observed a performance increase in new processors.
Announcing that it has purchased the chip company Tower Semiconductor in the past days, Intel has taken its competition with AMD to the next level. While some leaks about 13th generation Intel processors have emerged, a good news has come from Linux users.
Huge investment from Intel! Competition with AMD heats up
Linux users are satisfied with the Intel Alder Lake family
12th generation Intel processors were quite assertive about Windows 11 performance when they first came out. After the 5.16 update to the Linux kernel, the open source operating system is now fully compatible with Intel processors.
Phoronix team, some testing with both Windows and Linux performed. Tests with processes such as scanning, encoding, processing and file compression revealed how well the update works.
In the statement of the team, it was stated that it was realized with Asus Z960 motherboard, 64 GB DDR 4,400MHz RAM and Core i9 12900K processor. The test was carried out with the Windows 11 operating system, 3 different Linux distributions with Linux 5.16 and higher kernel versions, and a distribution using 5.15. The tests included Clear Linux 35810, Linux 5.16-based Ubuntu 22.04, Linux 5.17 rc3-based Ubuntu and Ubuntu 22.04 Daily.
Stating that 104 different tests were carried out in total, the team announced that Windows 11 was ahead in only 14 of the tests. Recommending a kernel update to Linux-based operating system users, the team underlined that Intel Alder Lake processors work wonders with Linux. It is worth remembering that the tests were conducted with the most powerful processor Intel has ever produced.
