Instagram will show popular locations to users
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced today that the company is introducing a new searchable map experience on Instagram. “Today we’re introducing a new searchable map on IG,” the CEO wrote in an Instagram story about the announcement. Now you can discover popular local businesses near you and filter by category.” used his words.

This map experience allows users to explore popular tagged locations around them. Location results include multiple categories, including restaurants, cafes, and beauty salons.
Before the new feature, the Instagram map experience included only posts. With the new update, users can search the map, access the filtering option, and move the map to look at nearby places. The company says the new map is now available on Instagram.
The new Instagram map feature also means it will increase the rate of discovery of local small businesses. In this way, it is possible to discover a new place by tapping the location tags in your feed or Stories posts.
You can also search for the name of a city, neighborhood or place on the Explore page. Besides that, Instagram also states that it has a Hashtag search for local hashtags like ‘#sanfrancisco’. With the new feature, you can also search for a location you are curious about. Thus, if users find a location, they will be able to save it and visit it again in the future. In addition, users will also share these places with their friends via direct messages.
