Instagram has announced that video posts will now be converted to reels format in order to increase engagement. Instagram reels videos are currently being tested among select users.
Instagram’s efforts to compete with TikTok are growing with the platform’s latest move. According to a screenshot posted on Twitter by social media expert Matt Navarra, Instagram has started testing a new feature on video posts to reach wider audiences on its platform and Facebook. Now all videos will automatically be in reels format.

A Meta spokesperson says they are testing this feature as part of their effort to simplify and improve the video experience on Instagram. Instagram hopes to get more engagement from the videos by redirecting all the videos to the reels page. It will be possible to add effects and music to videos.
The change is currently being tested with a limited number of users. It is not known what will happen to existing videos posted on Instagram and whether the 10 minutes duration (up to 60 minutes on verified accounts) will be extended.
The head of Instagram, Adam Mosser, said that Instagram is no longer a photo-sharing application, and producers stated that they focus on video, shopping and messaging.
