The popular social media platform Instagram started to rival TikTok with the features it added day by day. The platform, which is more similar to its rival with its new features, has caused reactions from many users for this reason. Instagram head Adam Mosseri responded to the backlash.
Mosseri: Instagram will turn into more videos
Instagram head Adam Mosseri released a video today addressing the backlash about the changes to the company’s platform. Facebook and Instagram, which are owned by Meta, have announced major changes to emulate TikTok’s success. Regarding this, names such as Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner called the platform “Stop trying to be TikTok”.
Upon these reactions, Adam Mosseri made a statement. “We will continue to support the photos. It’s part of our legacy. To be honest, I believe Instagram is going to turn into more and more videos.”
At the same time, the head of Instagram said that this also reflects user trends. He explained that even if the platform does not make any changes, more video content will appear. “We will have to address this change as we continue to support the photos.”
Mosseri also defended the rise of suggested posts in users’ posts. He claimed they were the ‘most effective and important’ ways for creators to grow their followers. He also stated that they will pause all suggestions for a month if users are not interested.
These steps by Instagram are not the first changes it has made to resemble TikTok. This similarity became even more apparent a few years ago when TikTok launched its ‘Reels’ feature, which is similar to the video format. At the same time, Mosseri sees TikTok as a threat, even if he doesn’t mention it directly.
So, what do you think about this subject? Do you think Instagram sees TikTok as a competitor? Is Adam Mosseri right in what he says? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
