Instagram is going through an important innovation in the Reels feature it developed as a rival to TikTok. The social media company, which allowed sharing short videos of up to 15 seconds when Reels was first used, gradually increased this time to 30 seconds, then 60 seconds.

However, users were criticizing Instagram on the grounds that even 1 minute was not enough. It turned out that Meta, which listens to negative comments, will once again increase the duration of Instagram Reels.

Instagram Reals duration increases to 1.5 minutes

Mobile application developer Alessandro Paluzzi has revealed the new update that will come to Instagram Reels with the reverse engineering method. Paluzzi stated that in the Reels section, they are working on the possibility of sharing 90 seconds, or 1.5 minutes of video, in addition to 15, 30 and 60 seconds, and that this feature is still under development.

It is worth adding that the 90 seconds option is not approved by Instagram and it is possible that it will not happen. However, these and similar features are usually implemented within a few months after the leak. On the other hand, considering the competition between Instagram Reels and TikTok, the extension of the deadline will not come as a surprise.

TikTok, which is under the umbrella of ByteDance company and is the arch-rival of Instagram, allows users to shoot long videos up to 3 minutes. Google, which took its place in the ‘short-form video’ competition with the YouTube Shorts service, allows content to be shared for a maximum of 60 seconds, just like Instagram.

On the other hand, Instagram is in fierce competition not only with TikTok and YouTube, but also with Snapchat. The social media company, which recently added the “Avatar” function, similar to Snap’s Bitmoji feature, to the platform, allowed users to share their 3D avatars in DMs and stories. This feature is gradually being rolled out in all countries.
