Facebook Inc. since its inception. The social media company, which continues its life with the name, was rebranded in October. Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg announced Meta at the Connect event he held in the virtual environment. He said that their primary goal as a company is now to focus on the Metaverse, known as the future of the internet.
The change, which is recorded as one of the most important developments in the history of the Internet, has put all the effort of a user into danger. According to the news of BBC News, Instagram, which operates under Meta, has closed the account of an artist with the username @metaverse. Months later, a statement came from the company.
Instagram apologizes by reopening the account
Thea-Mai Baumann told her Instagram on November 2, “Your account has been blocked for pretending to be someone else. He said that a warning message was sent. Baumann, who contacted the social media company many times to confirm his identity after the incident, stated that his efforts did not yield any results.
Thea-Mai Baumann, who owns an Augmented Reality company called Metaverse Makeoverse, was exhibiting her work on the @metaverse account. Stating that all his savings were in danger due to Instagram’s blocking, Baumann said, “This account represents ten years of my life and work. “I don’t want my contributions to Metaverse to be deleted from the internet,” he said.
Contacting roofing company Meta, The New York Times revealed the reasoning behind the @metaverse name being blocked. An Instagram spokesperson told the newspaper that the account allegedly ‘impersonating someone else’ was accidentally shut down. Saying, “We are sorry that such an error has occurred,” the company reactivated Baumann’s account.
Meta’s name struggle is not limited to this
Founded on the goal of bringing Metaverse to life, Meta also has name polemics with companies operating in different sectors. Recently, the founder of a computer manufacturer called Meta announced that he wants to sell the commercial rights of the company to Mark Zuckerberg for $ 20 million. Zuckerberg has not yet made a breakthrough in this regard.
On the other hand, according to Reuters, Meta allocated a budget of $ 60 million to purchase the trademark assets of a company called ‘Meta Financial Group’.
