An application masquerading as an antivirus but essentially containing malware was discovered in the Google Play Store. The fake antivirus app comes with a money transfer trojan.

An application masquerading as an antivirus but actually containing the banking trojan SharkBot has been discovered in the Google Play Store. The malware is listed in the store as a virus protection and junk files removal tool.

Antivirus, Super Cleaner application is still available on Google Play Store. The banking trojan it contained was revealed in October 2021. SharkBot transfers funds from compromised devices using automatic transfer system (ATS) techniques.

Do not blindly trust any application

The fake antivirus application has reached over a thousand downloads. It even has some deceptive reviews saying it works well. In order to be protected from dangerous trojans like SharkBot, one should not blindly trust any application in the Google Play Store.
