An interesting claim has been made about the war between TikTok and Meta. According to the latest report shared by the Washington Post, Facebook has agreed with one of the largest consulting companies in the USA to lobby against TikTok.

Facebook accused of lobbying TikTok

Facebook’s parent company, Meta, may have launched an interesting smear campaign to keep its users in the US. According to the Washington Post, Meta paid Targeted Victory, one of the country’s largest consulting firms, to discredit TikTok against the US public.

Meta has given some directives to the consulting firm it has hired to lobby against TikTok. The defamation campaign, for example, would be driven by anti-TikTok comments by expert psychologists and columns by well-known journalists in the United States.

US social media giant Meta’s purpose was simple. He wanted to portray TikTok as a danger to American children and society. One of the emails sent by the company to Targeted Victory was as follows:

“With the meta now a punching bag (he mentions federal agencies investigating Meta), the foreign-owned TikTok platform, especially popular with young people, is a real threat.”

It’s pretty obvious that Facebook is worried about other social media platforms. The use of Facebook among young people is practically zero. Eliminating the opponent can bring that audience back to the platform.

The number of daily active users of the social media network connected to Meta stood at 1.930 billion in the third quarter of 2021. However, Facebook announced that the number of daily users fell to 1.929 billion in the fourth quarter, with a loss of 1 million.

Consulting firm Targeted Victory did not comment on the campaign, but said she has represented Meta for several years and is proud of her work. He stated that Meta wanted articles such as “How TikTok became the most harmful social media for children”.

Meta spokesperson Andy Stone defended the campaign. “We believe all platforms, including TikTok, should be reviewed at a consistent level,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
