Changes to YouTube Shorts videos
Google says this change is necessary because spammy links are very likely to lead users to dangerous content, such as malware, phishing, or other scams. YouTube has systems to detect and remove spammy links, but now that the links are completely disabled, the measures will be further tightened.
In addition, social media icons will be removed from banners as they may mislead users.
However, creators use links to recommend products and brands to their followers to earn money. YouTube said it will offer new ways for creators to securely link to their content. Starting August 23, creators’ profiles will feature prominently clickable links next to the Subscribe button. Creators will be able to use this space to link to their websites, social media profiles, product sites, or other links that follow YouTube’s community guidelines.
Also, there is no change until the end of September for Shorts creators who like to leave links for the full video. After this period, YouTube will offer a new, safer way for creators to direct viewers from Shorts video to YouTube videos.
Spam comments have increased!
YouTube says that from the first quarter of 2022 to the first quarter of 2023, transactions related to fake accounts opened on behalf of someone else increased by over 35%. There was also a 200% increase in spam and inappropriate comments submitted for channel owner review.
