Competition in the smartphone market is increasing day by day. However, there may be problems in the shipment of some brands from time to time. Multiple international market research firms have announced the results of global smartphone shipments in the third quarter of 2022. However, the leader was not surprised again.
Apple is the only company to see growth
International market research firms such as Counterpoint Research, IDC (International Data Corporation) and Canalys announced the results of smartphone shipments in the third quarter of 2022. The report states that it fell 9.7 percent year-over-year in the third quarter of 2022. However, Counterpoint Research is down 12 percent, while IDC and Canalys represent 9 percent.
The drop marks the biggest third-quarter drop in shipments as shipments struggled between weakening global demand and economic uncertainties. However, all three research firms attribute the decline in smartphone market shipments to various reasons. These are in the form of the Russia-Ukraine war, China-US tension, rising inflation and falling national currencies.
As for OEM performance, Apple was the only company to see 2 percent annual growth. In the third quarter of 2022, the technology giant has a 17 percent market share with 51.9 million shipments. Samsung, on the other hand, led the third quarter market with 64 million sales and a 21 percent share, while it fell 8 percent year-on-year.
Xiaomi, on the other hand, came in third with a 13.4 percent share and 40.5 million shipments. Annually, it fell 8.6 percent. Vivo and OPPO took fourth place with 25.9 million sales and 8.6 percent smartphone shipments. In addition, both companies faced double-digit decreases of 26.3 percent.
In general, Chinese brands have been able to benefit from the exit of Apple and Samsung from the Russian market. It should also be noted that all five OEMs achieved positive growth each quarter. Apart from that, the leader of the list was not surprised again. Overall, smartphone market shipments are experiencing a significant decline.
