Apple customers don’t seem to be happy with the company’s iPhone 15 FineWoven cases. Since Cupertino aimed to reach the zero carbon target by 2030, it stopped selling leather accessories and launched these new cases instead. Although silicone and transparent cases are still available, the new material Apple has chosen instead of leather is causing headaches for the company and users.

In an internal memo seen by 9to5Mac, Apple told store employees how to handle complaints about FineWoven cases and the steps to clean the cases. “You may receive questions from customers about the appearance of new FineWoven material, how it wears over time, and how it should be maintained,” the statement said. “You can let your customers know that FineWoven material is made from luxurious micro twill fabric with a soft yet durable suede-like texture.”

While some hands-on experiences in the media and even a review by iFixit suggest that this product doesn’t look or feel premium at all, Apple remains adamant that FineWoven is as good as old leather cases. While the Cupertino tech giant said “some scratches may fade over time,” the company has warned employees that some FineWoven cases “may appear different and show wear over time as fibers compress under normal use,” and that MagSafe accessories respond to MagSafe chargers in a way “similar to leather and many other materials.” He wants him to say that it can leave “light scars”.

Finally, the company explains how users should clean FineWoven covers:

  • Soak a lint-free cloth in clean water.
  • Squeeze until just slightly moist.
  • Gently rub the cloth onto the FineWoven surface for 1 minute.
