With the developing technology, smart devices take up more space in our lives day by day. From robot vacuums to smart home systems, we now entrust some work in the home entirely to artificial intelligence supported software.

So, what will the situation be like 10 years from now? How much of the housework will we entrust to robots as humanity? A new study published in the journal PLOS One sheds light on this issue.

We will entrust 39% of the time devoted to housework to robots:

In the study, which included 29 artificial intelligence experts from the UK and 36 from Japan, the experts were asked for their opinions on the power of automation in home business over 10 years. There were also differences between countries and experts in the answers given.

British male specialists were more sympathetic to automation in housework than female specialists. But in Japan it was just the opposite. Some of the experts were of the opinion that increased automation in housework could achieve gender equality by reducing the time required to allocate to these tasks.

Parenting tasks will also be more automated in the future, according to experts. 28% of care work, including teaching and caring for children, will be automated.

When we look at the average of the answers, which reveals the general picture, we encounter a low-sounding number. Accordingly, within 10 years, 39% of the time spent on domestic tasks will be automated.

“Why so low?” don’t say:

Although this number may sound low at first, let us remind you that only a very low percentage of household chores are automated today. You can see a little bit of how such a development can happen by comparing 10 years ago with today.

After all, 10 years ago, there were no autonomous vehicles, there was no such thing as a drone, and even our artificial intelligence assistants such as Google Assistant and Siri were not born.
