Google CEO Sundar Pichai introduced the new Google Maps with immersive view, eco-friendly routes and more new features at the start of the I/O 2022 conference keynote. While Android 13 or the latest Chrome OS features haven’t been announced yet, Pichai has featured Google Maps in helping you navigate from one destination to the next. These new features will come to both Android and iOS systems by the end of this year.
The new version seems to focus on both improving the Google Maps UI and making it easier to see how you can get from point A to point B. Eco-friendly routes focus on enabling users to help offset climate change, which is a big and important issue in today’s world while driving.
It also comes with an “Immersive view mode” that lets you fly around like Superman or a drone, allowing you to fly and peek inside restaurants. Improvements have also been made in the images of the interiors and it is possible to zoom in more closely.
These developments were announced on the first day of the conference, we will continue to publish them on CHIP Online as new announcements are made.
