Google made a warning about Microsoft Teams, which was found to prevent calls to emergency numbers such as 911. In an email to Android users, he stated that emergency calls may not be possible if Microsoft’s video conferencing software is installed on the phone. The technology giant, which said in its previous statement that it would solve the problem with an update to be released on January 4, explained what needs to be done to avoid such a problem until then.
Google: Update the Microsoft Teams app
With the update it released for Teams, Microsoft finally solved the problem that prevented calling emergency numbers. However, if you have not installed the new version of the application, you may still be affected by the issue. In this context, Google made a special warning to Android device users via e-mail. He told them to update Microsoft Teams as soon as possible.
The company stated the following in the e-mail it sent:
The version of Microsoft Teams installed on your Android device may unintentionally block emergency calls (e.g. 911, 999, 112, etc. depending on your region) when not signed in to the app. The issue is caused by an unwanted interaction between the Microsoft Teams app and the underlying Android operating system. Please visit Google Play Store and update Microsoft Teams to the latest version immediately.
The email sent by Google links users to a support page where the steps required to resolve the issue are written. The company states on this page that the issue affects devices running older Android versions up to Android 8.0 Oreo. Previously, the error was estimated to occur only on Android 10 and above.
Google said in the continuation of the warning, “If you have updated the Microsoft Teams application after December 10, 2021, you may ignore this email.” Meanwhile, the problem, which was found to block not only 911 but all emergency numbers depending on the region, will be completely fixed with the operating system update that Google will release on January 4th.
