After Elon Musk took the helm, the storms around Twitter were just beginning to subside, and this time, a hacker claim made a mess. A hacker announced that he has put the data of 400 million Twitter users up for sale.
It is stated that the data was stolen in 2021 and the system was infiltrated by exploiting an API vulnerability found at that time but later closed.
Hacker codenamed Ryushi suggested to Elon Must and Twitter to purchase this data for $200,000. Otherwise, he said, Twitter would be punished much more.
The message reads: “To avoid paying $276 million in GDPR violation penalties, as happened to Facebook (533 million users’ information stolen), your best bet is to purchase this data privately from me. From now on, I will delete this thread and never sell this data again.”
The hacker exposed the data of a user base of 1,000 to show that his claim is true. These include some celebrities, and personal data includes usernames, email addresses, followers, account opening dates, and some users’ phone numbers.
If $200,000 isn’t paid by Twitter, the hacker also says he’ll sell that data for $60,000 to anyone who wants it.
