IBM, one of the important companies in the field of quantum computers, announced that it will put the machines in their hands for sale. The statement came directly from the IBM CEO.
IBM CEO Arvind Krishna told Reuters ahead of IBM’s Think conference that the company will put thousands of quantum computers up for sale in the next 3 years. Krishna said that the devices that should go on sale in 2025 will have more than 4,000 qubits of computing power, and that these machines can be used to steer vehicle fleets, improve financial risk models and similar tasks.

What is a quantum computer?
Quantum computers, while being the type of computer that uses quantum mechanics, draw attention with their higher and more efficient processing power than any ordinary computer. Classical computers have a memory structure made up of “bits”. Each bit can take the value 1 or 0. Quantum computers, on the other hand, differ from traditional computers in that they contain series of qubits. While quantum computers are currently the best solution for probability calculation, these devices can calculate for each potential answer at the same time, that is, they can calculate billions of probabilities at the same time.
Arvind Krishna refers to this as well, saying, “We may have exaggerated some things,” he says, emphasizing that building a quantum computer is more difficult than developing Artificial Intelligence (AI).
