Two South Korean-based automobile giants Hyundai and Kia issued an important warning to their customers today. Having made headlines with many engine failures and fire incidents over the past 6 years, the two companies have advised their customers in the United States to park their cars outdoors.
In the warning sent by Kia and Hyundai to a total of approximately 485 thousand customers, information was provided that cars can catch fire even when they stop. It has been announced that the source of the problem that will cause the car to catch fire where it stops is the control module that prevents the brakes from locking.
Vehicles recalled
According to the shared information, the cars that suffer from this problem are Kia Sportage produced between 2014 – 2016, K900 produced between 2016 – 2018, Santa Fe produced in 2016 – 2018, Santa Fe Sports produced in 2017 – 2018, Santa Fe produced in 2019. XL and Tucson models produced in 2014 – 2015. The specified car models were recalled for repair at Hyundai and Kia dealerships.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration combined two studies from 2017 on Korean automakers in December. These surveys covered more than 3 million vehicles from the 2011 to 2016 model years. The administration had received a total of 161 engine fire complaints at the time, including some of the vehicles that had already been recalled.
