Domestic defense industry company FNSS, which exports armored land vehicles to many countries, introduced its new tracked vehicle Kaplan Hybrid. FNSS Proposal Manager Özgen Gönenç explained the features of the vehicle, which was exhibited for the first time at the IDEF’23 International Defense Industry Fair, to Cem Sünbül.
The assembly of the first prototype of the Hybrid Power Group consisting of diesel and electric motor has been completed. Control software development and improvement activities continue.
The Hybrid Power Group can be integrated into other tracked vehicles of FNSS weighing up to 20 tons. Thanks to the electric engine, silent driving, silent monitoring and the ability to integrate new generation systems with high energy needs into the vehicle will be achieved.
Along with the Hybrid Power Group, new generation drive systems, suspension systems, gearboxes and powertrains were originally designed and developed. In addition, it was aimed to produce a reliable alternative solution to tracked vehicle transmission, which is heavily dependent on abroad and where the number of manufacturers is limited. Domestic alternatives of the imported parts used in the prototype model are produced.
Kaplan Hybrid achieves low fuel consumption thanks to its electric motor. In addition, it achieves faster acceleration compared to other tracked vehicles, thanks to its high torque production at low revs and its new hybrid drive system. The necessary maneuvers on the battlefield are performed faster, providing an advantage on the battlefield.
