Humpback whales were among the creatures that were in danger of extinction until the last few years. Fortunately, years of work by the authorities on this species paid off, and after 60 years of work it was removed from Australia’s threatened species list.

The Australian government celebrated their success by calling it “one of the most spectacular animal rescue stories ever recorded”. “This is not about lifting conservation measures for humpback whales, which are still a protected migratory species, but a recognition of the success of current extraordinary conservation efforts,” Environment Minister Sussan Ley said in a statement.

Humpback whales are found in waters worldwide, but are concentrated in the North Atlantic, North Pacific and Southern Hemisphere. While the humpback whales, whose species have been endangered due to increased whaling activities in the last 100 years, seem to have escaped danger for now as a result of 60 years of work, only around 1,500 humpback whales have remained in Australian waters in recent years. As a result of the species conservation efforts, its population has reached 40 thousand today.
