Bosch to invest another 400 million Euros for the processor
The increased spending for 2022 is at the company’s silicon electronic circuit manufacturing facilities in Dresden and Reutlingen, Germany, and in Penang; will go to increase operations at the semiconductor component plant.
Most of the funds will be used to increase production capacity at the Dresden field, the company’s largest investment in its history, which it opened for €1 billion ($1.2 billion) in June. This facility produces 300 millimeter electronic circuits. This is distinguished by being a larger size with many individual processors per circuit.
In Reutlingen, where the company has been producing semiconductor components since 1970; approximately 50 million euros will be spent in both 2022 and 2023. Bosch will expand “CleanRoom”, a specially designed environment in which silicon electronic circuits are converted into semiconductor chips. It will be expanded from 4,000 square meters to a total of 14,500 square meters. According to Bosch, the expansion will also create 150 new jobs.
Bosch will build a new semiconductor test center in Penang, which will be operational in 2023. The test center will initially have an area of approximately 14,000 square meters. However, the company has more than 100,000 square meters in Penang city and plans to use it all in the future.
Manufacturers were delighted that the massive investment came amid a protracted semiconductor shortage that automotive executives and industry analysts predict will spread into next year. Executives from both Ford Motor Company and General Motors said they predict continued famines into 2022 and possibly even 2023.
