According to the Financial Times, Huawei plans to resume production of smartphones with 5G communication technology, bypassing US sanctions early next year, in order to regain its position in the market.

According to the news of the publication, which is based on sources who know about Huawei’s plans, the company, which was blacklisted by the US and banned from purchasing American technology, will use Chinese chips. These are stated to be inferior to similar components in previous-generation Huawei smartphones and rival iPhone 14 models. But it’s affordable and accessible to the company.

In the age of 5G, producing a 4G phone is a cruel joke

IDC Singapore analyst Will Wong believes China’s technological independence plan “can help Huawei become a full-fledged player in the market for devices using 5G technology” and that the company’s success is “closely linked to the interests of the Chinese state.”

US sanctions have hampered Huawei’s plans to compete with Apple in the smartphone market. Huawei CEO Yu Chengdong previously admitted that the company is “the only manufacturer to sell smartphones with 4G connectivity in the 5G era” and described the situation as a “brutal joke”.
