Huawei is preparing to make new investments to expand its share in the field of artificial intelligence. It was said that the Chinese manufacturer will rival Nvidia graphics cards used in the field of artificial intelligence. Accordingly, Huawei has come a long way for the artificial intelligence-oriented graphics card.
Huawei claims to produce artificial intelligence graphics card to compete with Nvidia A100
Chinese artificial intelligence company iFlytek recently held an event. Speaking at the event, iFlytek CEO Liu Qingfeng claimed that Huawei is working on GPU models for artificial intelligence. He even reported that Nvidia will compete with the most powerful A100 chip in this field.
It was reported that Huawei passed the algorithm limitations in artificial intelligence and invested in computing power. However, it should be noted that Nvidia is quite advantageous in this regard. OpenAI, for example, used tens of thousands of A100 chips, selling for $10,000 each, to train ChatGPT.
Nvidia is currently unable to sell its A100 chip to Chinese companies due to US sanctions. This situation opens the door for companies such as Huawei to produce a domestic video card equivalent to the A100. It should be noted that Nvidia has a version of the A800 running at lower performances for the Chinese market.
Qingfeng also added that Huawei has set up a special team for AI-focused chips. He stated that there are some names of his own company in this team and that they are in close cooperation with Huawei.
On the other hand, he stated that iFlytek wants to launch a new artificial intelligence model that can compete with ChatGPT by 2024. It is unclear whether this model was developed with Huawei’s chips.
