Huawei, one of the leading names in the smartphone market, is preparing for a big change in HarmonyOS. For those who missed it, HarmonyOS Next, which was recently introduced, ended support for local APK files. This caused confusion, especially among Huawei owners in the global market. Now, amidst this confusion, Huawei CEO Richard Yu clarified some question marks.
HarmonyOS Next will be exclusive to China
For those who don’t know, Huawei’s access to Google services was restricted as a result of the trade tension between the USA and China. In this context, there are no Google Services such as Play Store, Gmail, YouTube or similar on devices offered for sale worldwide. However, let us remind you that these applications can be accessed through APKs. Therefore, HarmonOS Next, which ended APK support, marked a significant change.
A week after the announcement, Huawei made a statement that units abroad would not receive the new operating system. Therefore, mobile phones and tablets outside China will continue to use HarmonyOS-like EMUI, which lacks Google services and applications, and will offer support for native Android applications.
Additionally, Huawei says it will continue to use the (EMUI) branding until users are ready to accept the switch to HarmonyOS. The company, which has assured this issue many times, emphasized that it has created a large application developer community specifically for phones without Google.
