All the major music streaming services are counting on keeping users by making it slightly frustrating for you to switch to another platform. That’s why they don’t add a “move this playlist to another platform” feature to their app. For example, if you switch from Apple Music to Spotify, you cannot take the playlists you created with you.
But there is a way to get around this. Although you may have to use a third-party app or website, it’s all easy and free.
There are a number of apps designed to transfer your playlists, album lists, and song selections between various music services. Here are three of them:
- SongShift
- Free Your Music
- Playlist
There are also web-based options:
- Soundiiz
- TuneMyMusic
How do you transfer your music from one platform to another?
Whether you choose a web-based option or a dedicated app, download the app or visit the site first. Then sign in to Spotify, Apple Music, or any other service you have. From here, give apps permission to access your information and follow the instructions to transfer your playlists, albums, and anything else you want between music streaming apps.
These services work by accessing text and metadata from playlists on one music platform and recreating them in another music service. Once this is complete, you’ll probably want to go into your music app’s settings and remove the streaming app’s permission for security reasons.
Most of the time, the transfer goes smoothly, but there may be errors or artists/songs that are not available in both places. Most of these apps let you know if something isn’t transferring and give you the chance to change songs manually.
